The Ant Bully is an American fantasy comedy film that was released in 2006 and did not receive an anticipated overwhelming reception. Although it was considered a ‘box office disappointment’, it can’t be denied that those who love the film would watch it repeatedly no matter how old they are.
The movie is about a lonely 10-year old boy Lucas who does not interact with many people and is usually a target of excessive bullying. Eventually, to release his frustration and tease others the way he is teased, he starts destroying and attacking an ant colony in his front yard. He uses a squirt gun to impose agony on the ants and destroy their hard-earned food savings.
Hence, the ants retaliate by creating a potion that shrinks the kid to the size of an ant. He gets abducted by the ants and eventually learns about his mistake the hard way. The ants initially treat him with hostility apart from one ant Hova who develops a unique bond with him. Lucas eventually develops a deep bond with ants and learns how to step up against those who bully him.
Personally, I feel drawn to this movie because the plot of this movie visualizes something that we all might have fantasized about at some point in our childhood. I mean who never imagined how it must feel like to see the world from the eye of an ant. Plus, the whole setting of the movie and the lifestyle of ants is something very fascinating for me.
The ant bully depicts a creative perspective of humans regarding creatures that are so oblivious to the eye but are always around us, sneaking in our food, and taking what they want. Just how much we may be correct about our assumptions regarding them, we never know.
