School/College this year is less about learning and more about covering the syllabus. At a time where the Pandemic is holding everyone by their throat, schools have proved once again how they are nothing but thirsty for money.
For some of us, online classes have been going on since the pandemic hit the country and we have only gotten a handful of days off. Studying constantly without sufficient breaks has resulted in the students feeling burnt out and this is highly affecting the efficiency of the students. Online classes, in my opinion, are less effective when it comes to understanding the concepts. While students understand that physical school is harmful and might result in more COVID cases, it should also be noticed that school without break will result in students covering their syllabus half-heartedly and this, in turn, will affect their overall grades. A-level year 2 students also have to focus on their college applications and some students who previously opted for giving CIES instead of evidence-based grades also have that to deal with. This added to the constant online classes have resulted in this year being the least effective year in terms of education for some of us students. We are not learning anything. All we have been doing is submitting assignments, attending classes where we don’t understand anything at all, and feeling anxious.
As if the Pandemic and the quarantine weren’t enough to induce stress and anxiety, the new school policies have made it even worse for students to cope with this disastrous year. It is the job of the school to maximize the productivity of the students while making sure they learn something. However, seemingly the only thing schools care about these days is the money they earn while they keep the schools open without letting their students rest. Another thing to be mentioned is that many schools, have done nothing to relieve the stress on the parents of the fees in the middle of the Pandemic. This might also be the reason why schools refuse to give their students a proper break. It will affect the incoming money in the form of school fees.
Schools have proven again and again in this Pandemic how they don’t care about the education of their students and their comforts. The Education industry continues to exploit the parents and the children who dream of gaining knowledge and skills necessary for everyday life. This is further being proved due to the current Pandemic because while parents are trying their hardest to make the ends meet, schools offer little to no fluidity in their policies to help the parents and the students.
